The curriculum fosters the basic skills, reading, phonics, writing, spelling, composition, creative writing, mathematics, science, social studies, health, physical education, art, and music. The District supports the use of technology as a tool for learning and instruction. Emphasis is given to the use of technology in the writing process across the curriculum at all grade levels. We are proud of the involvement and support Franzen Intermediate School has been given by the Itasca Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (IEPTO). With the combined effort of the school organization and the IEPTO, Franzen has been able to offer many programs to our students. Some of these programs are: a Character Counts assembly with Miss Illinois as the presenter, a presentation by Historical Perspectives, the Geography Globe, the Education Fair, and the Franzen Challenge. The IEPTO also sponsors many after school programs and opportunities in which the students and parents participate. Through the cooperation of our community, the students at Franzen Intermediate School are able to participate in a number of programs and projects. Some of these programs or projects are the Fifth Grade Outdoor Education program, Special Friends’ Day, the Battle of the Books, and the Village of Itasca Tour, and special activities at the Springbrook Nature Center. These programs could not be successful without community support and involvement. Additional programs at Franzen also include the following: The Nestle-Adopt-A-School Program - Franzen Intermediate School has forged a relationship with the Willy Wonka Candy Factory in Itasca, IL. The Adopt-A-School program is a national program where Nestle employees, teachers and students work together to build a long-tern relationship. Some gifts purchased for the students at Franzen through the generosity of this program have been student calculators and student dictionaries to name a few. Besides gifts, Employees of Willy Wonka have given of their time to get involved with our students in a variety of ways from giving presentations, to being a “special friend” to our students on Special Friend’s Day, to getting involved in The Pen Friends Program. This program is a writing program that pairs up students with Wonka employees. This program helps children to develop their writing skills. Adults Involved In Mentoring Students (AIMS) This program is a community-based program in which trained adults volunteer their time once a week to spend a lunch hour with a child. A mentor can provide support, guidance, and encouragement to the student. Mentoring a student can mean a variety of things from reading together, playing games, writing together or just spending time talking. Each mentor has gone through specific training and has passed a criminal background check. We invite you to find out more about Franzen Intermediate School through this web site. We also encourage you to correspond with or visit our school. The school office telephone number is (630) 773-0100.
